Motorola Moto E – Specifications and Review

Nowadays, every leading smartphone company is trying to make a low range smartphones with more and better integrated features and specs. After Nokia and Samsung, Motorola has taken a step forward to manufacture such low range smartphones. This American mobile manufacturer has launched its new smartphone, fully loaded with features at low cost of Rs. 6,999. Moto E had a great success and went out of stock on flipkart just in 48 hours. After the success of mid-range Moto G, Motorola is now celebrating the success of Moto E. Until now, Indian market was full of low budget phones which could not deliver the performance as expected by the user. But, according to me, Moto E is a real game changer smartphone which delivers a better performance as expected from its cost.  Now, let’s see what features are integrated in this smartphone to make its such a great sell.

Moto-E

Design –

At first glance, Moto E looks like Moto G. Its rear side is curved and is made of a soft-touch polycarbonate which is comfortable to hold. Its front panel is different when compared to the Moto G, which has two speakers on top and bottom of the panel with a chrome tone. Moto E has dimensions 124.8*64.8*12.3 mm and weighs 142 gram, heavier and thicker than Moto G. However, for this price group, these dimensions and weight are good. The power and volume rocker buttons are place on right sides while the 3.5mm audio jack is on the top and micro USB port is place on bottom.

Display –

The display is quite good and neat. It is a 4.3 inch qHD display along with the Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection. It is having 540*960 pixels resolution and offers 256 ppi pixel density. It also has a water resistant splash guard for better durability and one can easily slide it into pocket, where the keys and sharp objects won’t bother it much.

Processor and OS –

The Moto E is powered by 1.2 GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor along with Andreno 302 GPU. It is supported by 1 GB RAM and comes with 4 GB built-in storage out of which 2.1 GB is user accessible. Expandable storage is up to 32 GB via microSD card. 1 GB RAM is quite sufficient for Moto E to conduct smooth operations and multitasking.

Motorola has provided Android 4.4 KitKat version to Moto E which is a good thing as other companies are not providing this latest android version for such low cost Android smartphones. It is the first Android smartphone to hit the Indian market with Kitkat Android version below the range of Rs. 10,000. Also, Motorola has many preloaded apps such as Motorola Migrate which helps in moving the contents of old Android phone to your new Moto E and Motorola Assist which assists users in many operations. The company has introduced new Motorola Alert app, which is also available on Google Play. This app alerts close people about your location, when needed.

Camera –

The Moto E features a 5- megapixel rear camera and is capable of capturing FVWGA video. Unfortunately, it is not having a front camera and rear flash. Well, this is a bad news for selfie lovers. Image quality of the camera is very satisfying.

Motorola Moto E is having a great battery backup with its 1980 mAh battery. Also, it comes with a large range of interchangeable back panels called Motorola Shells, with almost 9 colors.

How it is a game changer?

With all these features at such a low cost, Moto E has changed the game of low-cost Android smartphones in the market. Its competitors such as Samsung galaxy Trend, Nokia X, Sony Xperia E1 which comes at low cost i.e. below Rs. 10,000 cannot give the performance as delivered by Motorola Moto E or some lack in some specs or some can’t beat the price. Thus, among all its competitors, Moto E better to buy. Now, other companies will have to rethink about their strategy to introduce mid-range and low-range smartphones in market.
