How to Root and Install Clockworkmod Recovery on Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 I9200

As the name suggests Samsung Galaxy Mega has huge screen of 6.3 inch. Before Mega, Pantech claimed the Pantech Vega No 6 had largest HD screen at 5.9 inch, but with 6.3 inch Screen, Mega defeated the rival.

Galaxy Mega has got Official Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean firmware. But stock firmware comes with a lot of bloatwares and useless apps which restrict the device from performing smooth and fast. But you can root your phone to gain full control over the phone or you can even go for custom ROMs.

But before you can root or install custom ROMs you must have a custom recovery. Custom recovery is a tool which helps you to do this thing. With the help of custom recovery you can flash custom ROMs and other hacks, you can take complete backup (nanroid backup) of your current system and also wipe data through it.

Now a famous Custom Recovery called Clockworkmod recovery is available for Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. Thanks to Senior XDA member Sarath280.

CWM for Galaxy Mega 6.3Attention! This procedure of flashing Clockworkmod Recovery is only meant for Galaxy Mega 6.3 only bearing model number GT-I9200. Trying this on any other device may result in undesirable outcomes.

Pre-requisites:

  • Make sure that your device is charged at least up to 80% so that it wont get turn off during the process.
  • Also dont forget to take a backup of all important data like SMS, MMS, APN, contacts etc. to the external memory card as they gets wiped during installation. If you need any assistance on that, follow the guides given below

  • You must install the appropriate device drivers in your PC for getting your device recognized when you connect it to the PC. Device drivers can be installed through Kies software.

  • You must temporary disable all the security tools as well as Antivirus Installed on your PC as they might interrupt the process.

Procedure to Install Touch Clockworkmod Recovery on Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3:

  • Download Android CWM Touch Recovery From link given below.

  • Download Odin Multi Downloader v3.07:

  • This Odin Multi Downloader must be installed in your PC which can be further used for flashing the recovery on your device.
  • Switch off your device completely. Now boot the device into downloading mode by holding Volume Down Key + Home Button + Power Button simultaneously. You will land in downloading mode.
  • Launch the Odin Multi Downloader tool which you just installed in your PC and connect your device using the USB cable.
  • When the device connects successfully, a message saying Added appears in Odin. Along with that youll see the ID:COM section (located at top left) is turned Blue with a random COM port number appearing below it. In case the ID:COM section doesnt turn out to be Blue, re-install the Device drivers or Samsung USB drivers from the link given above in pre-requisites.

Odin-3.07

  • In Odin, select the PDA tab and select the recovery file which you have downloaded earlier. Keep all the remaining options in the Odin as they are.
  • (Important)!! Note that the Re-partition box is not ticked.
  • Now hit the Start button to begin the flashing process of Touch CWM.
  • As soon as the flashing process finishes successfully, youll get a message saying Pass above the ID:COM section with a Green colored background. The device will restart automatically.
  • Now safely unplug the USB cable from your PC
  • In case your device gets stuck while performing the above flashing process, immediately close the Odin window, remove and re-insert the battery and again do the same above procedure.
  • Whenever you want to boot onto recovery, press and hold down the Volume up key + Home Button + Power Button simultaneously until the recovery mode appears.

How to Root Galaxy Mega 6.3:

  • First download the rooting package from the link given below.

  • Transfer this file to external SD card of your phone.
  • Now boot into recovery by following instructions given above.
  • Now flash the downloaded zip file. For that select install zip from sdcard followed by chose zip from sdcard. Chose Cyanogenmod 10.1 zip file from the given list of files. Confirm it by selecting yes next step.
  • Wait few minutes for installation of ROM. In the end you will see Recovery menu again.
  • Finally select +++++go back+++++ and then reboot system now.
