Few years ago Samsung released Galaxy Note, a beast with 5 inches of screen, in mobile industry. This innovative gadget received a warm welcome defining a new concept of phablet. With the grand success of Note, Samsung came up with its sequel Note 2. Meanwhile other manufacturers also entered in this phablet war.
It was predicted that Samsung will unleash Note 3 around September. Keeping this fact in mind, LG announced G2 prior to release of Note 2. Both high end devices has some astonishing features and eye-catchy UI’s. Let us see what actually they have to withstand against other rivals.
Although other high end devices like HTC One and iPhone are using metallic hardware, both G2 and Note 3 are stick to their traditional plastic material.
One of the drastic change in G2 is placement of volume and power keys. Instead of mounting them on sides, LG has moved them to back of the mobile. While the major change that you will observe in Note 3 is its back panel. Samsung has replaced it leather one.
In terms of weight Note 3 (168g) is heavier than G2 (140g) due to its larger size. Note 3 has a 5.7 inches monster screen to 5.2 Inches screen of G2. While the thickness is considered Note 3 is much slimmer with just 8.3mm thickness as compared to 8.9mm of G2.
As expected, Samsung has adorned Galaxy Note 3 with their traditional super AMOLED display. It’s mammoth 5.7 inches screen makes it biggest amongst the rivals. On the contrary, LG G2 has utilized IPS LCD screen for its 5.2 inches screen. Both Note 3 and LG G2 come with full HD 1080P resolution which results in 386ppi and 424ppi densities respectively.
Both Note 3 and LG G2 come with 13 megapixel camera with LED flash. Although specification wise both are identical, but the quality wise G2 is one step ahead of Note 3. Thanks to its optical image stabilization technology which reduces camera shake and lends to better quality photo. Other features like simultaneous video and image recording, geo-tagging, face detection, optical image stabilization, HDR makes it a perfect device for photography.
On the hand Note 3 has the features which you seen earlier in Galaxy S4 like-Dual Shot, Simultaneous HD video and image recording, geo-tagging, touch focus, face and smile detection, image stabilization, panorama, HDR.
In terms of video recording you will hardly find any difference in them as both supports 1080P recording at 60fps. And when it comes to secondary camera, both G2 and Note 3 feature 2 megapixel camera which is optimum for video calling.
When we talk about mobile, first thing we concern about is its battery. And both manufacturers have designed it large enough to keep them alive for more than a day for medium usage. Note 3 possesses 3200mAh battery to the 3000mAh battery of G2. Though number wise former looks better than the later one, both has almost same battery life as since former device consumes more battery due to its size.
LG has used latest Snapdargon 800 quad core processor clocked at 2.3GHz. (approx.) frequency for G2. On the other hand Note 3 comes with two different set of processor. The LTE variant utilizes the same Snapdragon 800 processor as that of G2. While the 3G variant features next generation Exynos 5 Octa 5420. (clocked at 1.9 GHz. Quad core & 1.3 GHz quad core.)
One of the drawback of G2 is that it doesn’t have card slot. But it does have enough large space (16 GB or 32GB) to store a huge amount of data unlike Nexus 4. In comparison to G2, Note 3 can store more data as it is available in 32GB and 64GB variant. Besides it also has a card slot that supports microSD card up to 64 GB.
One of the features of Note 3 that grabs everyone’s attention is its 3GB RAM memory. But do we really need this much RAM for our mobile? Well, we will keep this question aside right now. On the other side G2 comes with 2GB RAM memory.
Everyone one knows about the punctuality of LG in terms of upgrading their flagship device to latest Android OS. As LG G2 comes with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean on board, don’t know how much time it will take to receive Android 4.3. On the contrary, Note 3 is blessed with Android 4.3 on board which is the latest one in the market.
Both devices includes respective custom featured software like knockOn, Answer Me, Plug & Pop and Guest Mode etc. in LG G2 while Note 3 incorporates all the software from S4 along with S finder, My magazine and all the app related S pen.
One of the remarkable features of Note 3 is its microUSB 3.0 port which will allow you to transfer data at high speed between PC and mobile using USB cable. While G2 uses the conventional microUSB 2.0 like all the other devices.
One more thing that always associated with Note series is S pen. As expected you can see the notable improvement in S Pen features of Note 3. Some of them are Air command, Action memo, Pen window and so on.
Both LG and Samsung have left no stone unturned in making their flagship devices. In some points G2 is better than Note 3 while in other cases Note 3 thumbs down G2. In the end both are the best Android mobile currently available in market. You can choose anyone whichever suits you the most.
