Update Sony Xperia U ST25i to Official ICS 4.0.4 Firmware [6.1.1.B.1.54]

Back in 2012, Sony launched new series of Xperias. Few of them were high end devices (Xperia S, Xperia ion), some were middle range phones (Xperia Sola, Xperia U, Xperia P) & rest was low end devices (Xperia Tipo, Xperia Go). All these devices were launched with Gingerbread 2.3.7 on board (Xperia Tipo is exceptional). After a month or two, Sony rolled out ICS update for its flagship devices & subsequently for middle range devices. As we all know that theyve taken a bit long time to release ICS updates, it may not be tolerable. But anyways, finally its out.

Sony started upgrading Xperia U ST25i to ICS in September12. At first, they rolled out 6.1.1.B.1.10 firmware for all the devices. Now by fixing the bugs & issues like random lag & resource management, theyve pushed another ICS update with 6.1.1.B.1.54 firmware for India region. But with Flashtool (firmware flashing tool for all Xperias), you can apply it to any unbranded / unlocked Xperia U worldwide.

Android 4.0.4 ICS update has improved performance & stability over Gingerbread. Along with that many interesting features like face unlock are also added. ICS was one of the revolutionary update from Google & Sony has taken it to the higher level.

In this article we are going to discuss how you can upgrade your Sony Xperia U ST25i to 6.1.1.B.1.54 ICS 4.0.4 firmware.

update sony xperia u st25i to official ics 4 0 4 firmware 6 1 1 b 1 540

This guide must be applied only on Sony Xperia U ST25i. Dont try to implement it on Xperia P / Xperia Sola or on any other device else it can turn in hardware failure of your device.

Pre-requisites:

  • Charge your phone at least up to 75% battery level.
  • It is highly recommended to backup all your data from internal memory (includes contacts, messages (SMS/MMS), call logs, Internet APNs etc.). Your phone data will get lost after installation of this firmware (excluding External storage).

Procedure to Upgrade Sony Xperia U ST25i to Official Android 4.0.4 ICS Firmware (6.1.1.B.1.54):

  • Download Xperia Flashtool from here. Well be using it for flashing the firmware.
  • Download Xperia U ST25i Official Android 4.0.4 ICS Firmware package (6.1.1.B.1.54) from here.
  1. Update 1 (6.1.1B.1.89): Download (Don’t extract)
  2. Update 2 (6.1.1.B.1.100): Download
  • Install Flashtool that you’ve just downloaded in your computer. For the sake of convenience, install it in root directory of C: drive.
  • Extract ICS firmware package, you’ll get ST25i_4.0.4_Indian Firmware.ftf file on your extracted location.
  • Navigate to C: –> Flashtool –> Firmwares and delete all the data over there if anything is present.
  • Now move ST25i_4.0.4_Indian Firmware.ftf file in the above mentioned directory.
  • Open Xperia Flashtool. Select Flash option (Black Bolt icon) from the top left corner of the tool (Refer to image given below).
  • It will ask you to select either Flashmode or Fastboot mode. Select Flashmode & proceed further by hitting OK button.

  • On next screen, Firmware selection window will appear. On left side, select ST25i (version 6.1.1.B.1.54 / .89 / .100).
  • On right side of the tool, tick following 4 options (Caution! Dont tick any other option than 4 mentioned below).
  1. Wipe data.
  2. Wipe cache.
  3. Wipe apps log.
  4. No final verification.

update sony xperia u st25i to official ics 4 0 4 firmware 6 1 1 b 1 542

  • Press OK. Wait for Flashtool to prepare firmware installation.
  • Now, it will ask you to connect your phone. Before you connect your phone to computer, enter into Flashmode on it. To do so, switch off the phone completely. By holding Volume down key, connect it to PC. If done correctly, you should see a green light on the power.
  • After establishing proper connection with the computer, flashing process will start. Firmware installation process may get stuck around 93%, which is normal. It stays there for 20-30 seconds and not more than that.
  • Once you get Flashing finished message in Flashtool, remove your phone from PC & wait for it to reboot (It may take more time than usual for booting the device, which is normal. So don’t get panic & be patient).

Thats it! You have successfully updated Xperia U ST25i to Android 4.0.4 ICS firmware. Now in case if you need any help while flashing firmware, do comment below. Well try our best to sort out the same.

Hello everyone, I'm Viraj, the chief editor at Android Legend. When I'm not checking out the latest stuff happening in Android, I mostly spend my time flashing different ROMs, testing Android apps & games. Feel free to join me on Google+.

Don’t know why your Bluetooth isn’t getting turned on. You may try re-flashing the whole firmware to get it sort out.
The thing you mentioned about flashing those kernel is for rooting purpose. As you can see, .100 firmware can’t be rooted directly, you need flash .10 kernel, run the rooting script & flash .100 kernel again.
Let me know if you’ve any questions. Have a good day!

Every thing is fine bro. its working all fine now. the only query now is – its a deutsch version i guess. there are apps like planet3, inside3, 3mobileTV, all in an unreadable format, deutsch i guess, can these useless apps be uninstalled? as they are inbulit. or rather we have to keep it in our mobile.

  • Jack

Hey, I have an ST25i on Gingerbread. It was bought from Orange in the UK, who don’t seem to have made ICS available (when I go to update it, it says I am already up to date!)
When I go on “About Phone” it says:

    Baseband version: u8500-49020604-R1G_EC14
    Kernel Version: 2.6.3 5.7 +
    Build Version6.0.B.3.184

Will this phone upgrade to ICS if I follow the steps above? Or do I need to unlock it from the network or anything first? I’m paranoid of bricking it, I’m not very experienced in playing with phone software!
Also, what is the best way to back up my phone before I do this, and how do I get my apps back on the phone once I’ve updated the firmware? Do they stay in the memory or do I have to reinstall everything? Will they keep my settings?

Sorry for all the questions, I hope you can help!
    Cheers, Jack

  • Aravind Balaji

I have a doubt before doing this.
The procedure above is just UPDATING the phone MANUALLY right?
Because, im not sure if i’ll get other updates in the future.
What i mean to say is that it’ll remain GENUINE right?
Its just a MANUAL way to update??????
Im a nooby in this, pls answer it for me

    • Sanket

It is a genuine firmware. And you will get futher updates in future if available.

      • Aravind Balaji

        :D Thankyou very much! :D
        I’ll proceed with the rooting~ :D
It was bugging me from such a long time. :D

I’m from Nigeria… Can I install it on my phone?

  • Juneid

I am a newbie for this stuff. Can you tell me which is best Stock ICS ROM – 6.1.1.B.1.100 , 6.1.1.B.1.54 or 6.1.1.b.1.89.?
SO far I’ve tried GB-Rocks , ICS 6.1.1.C.1.0 , ICS 6.1.1.B.1.10. And PC Companion is telling me that you’ve latest update on 6.1.1.B.1.10. Do the above updates official, cuz I can’t find that on sony? And the latest version that you are saying b.1.100 fixes the gps bug of previous ICS ROMs?

  • N.V

Thanks man! Followed your guide and used your firmware download. My xperia U is running on 6.1.1.B.1.100

  • Deepu

From Sony’s official website for India I understood that the latest firmware is 6.1.1.B.1.54, but when i tried to update (using PC Copanion) my firmware it is not getting updated (still 6.1.1.B.1.10) and PCC shows that ur phone is uptodate why it is so?
If iam flashing my phone whether my phone’s warranty will be void?
for flashing bootloader unlocking is required?
should usb debugging needs to be enabled?
    iam new to such things
plz help me and reply me for all my queries

    • Viraj SK

      1) There might be an issue with Sony servers (just a guess).
      2) Warranty won’t be voided.
      3) Unlocked bootloader isn’t necessary.
      4) As long as you operate the phone in flash mode, there is no need to enable USB debugging.

      I hope I’ve answered all your queries…

      • Deepu

        Dear Viraj ,
Thanku very much for ur support and fast response, today itself i will try flashing

        • Viraj SK

          You’re always welcome.. :)

        • Deepu

      • vishal

        should i try .89 or .100
        plz suggest
what are the pros & cons ?
        kindly reply

        • Viraj SK

As far as users have reported, .100 doesn’t seem to have any issues & hence it would be the best firmware for Xperia U till now. You should definitely go with it…

Flash mode drivers are not correctly installed

    • Neha

You have to disable anti-virus (Avira found a virus/unwanted program in the exe that installs drivers), and importantly, install flashtool by “run as administrator”.

    Hey viraj,
Thanks a ton for this post.
I was about to sell my Sony Xperia U which i purchased a year ago as I got rid of 2.3.7 Os.
I had read so many bad reviews of the users who had updated their Xperia U with the official ICS
But as i followed your blog and updated my Xperia with ICS .100 firmware.
it changed my decesion to sell it. I really love its new inner look now after ICS .100 update.
    Hats off to your efforts.

Hello Viraj ! I’m considering updating from gingerbread to ICS. Looking at the comments it seems there is a 2G network issue with the .100 update ? Is that an issue or should I go ahead with the update ? Would appreciate a prompt reply. Thanks

    • Viraj SK

It may / may not work fine for you. Therefore, I would suggest you to stick with GB as of now..

      • Jafar

But the problem i have a Signal drop after every incoming and out going call.we need to wait for 5-10 second to get back the signal.. Hence i gone back to old version. I will give one more try this week and install and do some R&D on that, becuase .100 is little bit speedy

2g is not an issue, riku has posted a simple workaround for it:
      hii…
u can manually switch to 2G mode in ics .100 version or any other version:
      >launch phone application
      >dial *#*#4636#*#*
      >Select “Phone information”
      >Set preferred network type as “GSM only” (for 2G)
      >press back or home to exit and u r done with switching to 2G mode :)

hii viraj..hw to manually switch to 2g mode in ics .100 version???waitig for ur reply…thanx in advance..

    • mevicks

Hi, Just saw your post and wanted to give others a heads up. Some of those who installed a non-generic version of B.1.100 would have to do it the messy way, i.e getting back the option to select 2g Network only. Why should i do it ?
No 3g+data = More Battery juice.

So these are the steps you would have to perform (just the over view, more info about a particular step could be found in the above replies or in the XDA XU forum)

      1. “Root” the B.1.100
      2. Install a root file explorer app (Root Explorer for instance)
      3. Browse to the phone folder system/etc/customization/settings/com/android
      4. Delete the “phone” folder (If you are skeptic enough to perform this step you can very well make a back up of the file inside it)
      5. Reboot. Done. You should now see the option to select 2g or 3g network.

You can see the tips given here
      http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170

Faster way to recover a boot loop, Connect the phone in FASTBOOT method (Blue LED) and via the android sdk fastboot.exe reflash the KERNEL only “elf” file (this step can be done via flashtool also but you might need a ftf file for this). The loop came in the first place due to a mismatch in kernel versions.. You flashed a ICS kernel on a GB rom (even different versions in the GB rom might cause the loop). If you dont know the exact kenel versions you could start by choosing a approximate version. This step will help you to RECOVER the phone.

      The problem is :
Drivers need to be installed for connected device.
Check the sony support site for this. You can download and install the PC companion and it will install the drivers for you.
Theres a option to install the drivers via flashtool too.

  • arun

    hi viraj

can you plz tell me how to root 6.1.1.b.1.100 ???

coz, to root .89, 1st we flashed .10 kernel then flashed .89 (as suggested in xda)!!!

    • Viraj SK

Try performing the same with .100 as well. I hope it works..

P.S: It won’t harm the phone..

      • arun

        Thanks for the reply.

I rooted .89 as instructed in the link (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2244015).

It was package which consist of .89 kernel ,.10 kernel ,cwm , root.bat .. I just followed instruction, it was very easy.

But now prob is ,how should i flash .100 kernel??
should i download .100 kernel then replace the same with .89 kernel in the folder , then fallow the same steps???

        • Viraj SK

First flash .10 kernel. Get your phone rooted on the same (using root.bat). Then flash .100 kernel. Done!

        • arun

okay thank you ,i will try it out.

        • arun

          Hi
I got .100 firmware and i got .10 kernel. Now my doubt is !!,, after flashing .100 firmware and .10 kernel ,
how can i flash .100 kernel????

I am new to android , so plz instruct me.

        • Viraj SK

Perform same steps as you do for flashing a firmware. But just tick all the options in “Exclude” except “Exclude kernel” option.

Also, don’t tick any option from Wipe menu. (Check out the last image posted in above article. You’ve to make modifications in that only.) And done!

Flashtool will flash .100 kernel only (from the whole firmware)..

        • walid

my flashtool can not read my phone how to connect it .thanks

If you’ve installed too many apps, it will slow down your phone. So, uninstall useless apps first & try to clear caches of all the apps…

        • Viraj SK

I think your phone is carrier locked and you are applying an unbranded firmware on it. Probably, this is the reason why your isn’t catching any signal. You’ll have to flash a carrier specific firmware to resolve this issue..

*****In right side of the tool, tick following 4 options (Caution! Don’t tick any other option than 4 mentioned below).
    Wipe data.
    Wipe cache.
    Wipe apps log.
    No final verification*******

    >I found all of them (wipe data, cache, log,no final) blank after selecting the firmware. So there was nothing to be checked. So i continued without them and now ICS is active in my phone. Does it make any problem in my xperia U?

    >Another thing is that after activating ICS,my earphone doesnt work. Is it happening bcz of updating android or is it the problem of my earphone? Plz reply if u have something to suggest. I installed (6.1.1.B.1.54). Thnx

    • Viraj SK

      1) It doesn’t make any issue.

      2) Check your earphones with any other device. If they’re working then most probably it’s a problem of Android.

I’d suggest you to flash .89. Try your earphones with it & let me know the result..

    Hey Viraj,

Thanks for the Tut. The latest update .89 you posted, is it for India region? some comments says it have Italian by default. Will this work in India without any problem? Also, are these images official from Sony?

    Thanks in Advance
    AP

    • Viraj SK

This is Italian update and should work for Indian users too (as far as your phone’s model number is ST25i).

The screenshots posted in this article are captured by users that are using .89 update…

      • AP

        Thanks a lot buddy.

        • Viraj SK

          Welcome Bro..

  • Nabeel

hey Viraj can I only upgrade kernel to .89 from .54? with this procedure?

to flash B.1.89 kernel you need to chose full B.1.89 TFT in flashtool and:
    1. under Wipe: uncheck everything
    2. under Execlude: check everithing EXCEPT execlude kernel

or is it better to install a fresh firmware from starting?

    • sarath

can i use the above method to flash kernel only to root my xu.89 ?

      • rameez

        Hi viraj Bro!
i have flashed with .54 but there are problems like
        1. speed too slow although i have 1.5 GB free in internal and SD too.
        2. most games subway surfer, temple run OZ,trains simulator almost all games too slow response much delay in touch listner
        3. mostly stucked either in home screen or within any App.

please suggest me i should downgrade or go forward for .89?
        Thanks!

        • Viraj SK

As other users have reported, .89 works great as compared to .54. So, I’d suggest you to go forward for .89. Ultimately choice is yours…

        • rameez

i have flashed now .89 its far better than .54.
i am very happy with this all issues resolved!

  • Sharath

My Xperia U is T model phone, can i upgrade my phone with this software ?

    • Sanket

If its model number is different then no you can’t.

  • Shashi

MOdel # my Xperia U is ST25 (not ST25i), when I connect my mobile to PC, it shows that the new software available is 6.1.1.B.1.10 not 6.1.1.B.1.54 firmware as you mentioned, considering my location is India, earlier I upgraded my mobile to ICS via PC companion however degraded it to GB after lagging issue. Do you still advice me to upgraded my mobile as mentioned above?

    • Shashi

HI Viraj, appreciate you response on my issue..

  • Shashank

    Hi Viraj
Thanks for the work. Just wanna know that if i upgrade from stock 6.0.B.3.188 to 6.1.1.B.1.89 will my warranty be void??? thats my major concern and would i be able to go back to GB???

    • Viraj SK

Being an official firmware, upgrading from 6.0.B.3.188 to 6.1.1.B.1.89 won’t void the warranty. And you will be able to downgrade it to GB..

      • Shashank

OK. and how would i be able to downgrade?? because last tym i upgraded to .10 ICS and was facing lag so i needed to go to the service center for getting GB back?? will i need to do the same again??

        • Viraj SK

No need to rush for service centre again. You can downgrade to GB by flashing GB ftf (using the same method mentioned above)..

        • Shashank

Thanks a lot man… if it doesnt void my warranty then im surely going for it. Keep up the good work :)

        • Shashank

One more thing Viraj what about the language?? it would be italian or english???

        • Viraj SK

Initially, it will be Italian but you can be set it to English later on..

        • Shashank

Viraj im facing a problem, when flashtool asked for connecting phone i connected it , pc recognized it but the flash tool is still showing the same thing asking to connect

        • Viraj SK

Have you installed a device specific drivers in your PC?

        • Shashank

ya bro i installed Drivers for xperia u from the drivers folder in flashtool

        • Shashank

it shows device connected with USB debugging off and For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode

        • Viraj SK

Device is booted normal or in flash mode?

        • Shashank

ya done man… i started it again in flash mode and now running fine.. waiting for it to be completed…. thanx a lot bro for the help

        • Viraj SK

Notify me once it gets completed.
And let me know if you need any further assistance. Your questions are always welcome :D

        • Shashank

Superb bro.. completed very easily.. working fine.. Your work is highly appreciable.. thanks :)

      • Cediee

Do I need to root my phone before doing this? And also what are these TIM network etc etc? I’m from PH, is it okay to do this in my XU?

        • Viraj SK

No need to root. And if your device has model number ST25i, you can surely go for it..

  • Jibraan

        • Kevin

Looks like i got ICS running! Now i just have to remove TIM apps on my phone. Do i have to root it in order for it to be removed?

        • Viraj SK

Yes, you’ll have to root for removing the bloatwares..

Anyone else with this problem? How did u solve it?
Thanks in advance for the reply.

  • anton

Hi, I’ve an unlocked phone flashed time ago with stock 2.3 and then upgraded to 6.1.1.B.1.10 through PCC. Installing your .54 room, (even marking all wipe options) phone starts with APNs from my old company and it quickly download the new ones. The problem is that it marks it’s on Roaming. I tried but was not able to remove or disable old APN, even modifying it results in unexpected close from configuration.
Do you know why this happens. When I installed 2.3 stock ROM time ago, I get no more the APN from my old company, and even upgrading to 4.0.4 keep the new ones.
    Thanks

    • anton

Sorry for posting this again, I didn’t notice the previous one had been published, so feel free to remove this one.

  • adithya

  • BERNIS

the firmaware says indiand will this change my language or something?

    • Viraj SK

      No..

  • anton

It could sound a bit strange, but I own a XU unlocked from vodafone.
Time ago, after unlock the phone, I installed sony stock 2.3 ROM as I cannot remove vodafone APN from original ROM. Later, PC Companion upgrade the phone to stock 4.0.4 (6.1.1.B.1.10), and the APN remain ok.
Now, I’ve installed your 6.1.1.B.1.54, and phone booted with the vodafone APN, which I cannot remove, and so the phone thinks that I’m using Roaming with my actual company. Only way to get rid of roamin was to flash 2.3 again and let PC Companion to upgrade to 4.0.4

What is the phone doing this? is there a way to totally remove vodafone branding? Your .54 seemed to me faster than the .10 from sony, so I would like to install it again.

    Thanks in advance

  • Bandu

Thx Viraj SK for this forum. I am one among the many Sony has forgotten to give any update. Mine was 2.3.7 till today. After i read ur forum,i tried out and it came out perfectly. I am now having the latest ICS firmware. Its butter smooth without any problem. I recommend those on gingerbread to update to .89 .
    Some changes are;
    Walkman music player
    Face unlock
    Slightly different UI
    Awesome gallery
    Butter smooth
    ICS type task killer
    and many more

  • ancel

I have doubt about this update (below)..

    1. sony website it shows only 6.1.1.B.1.10.avail to xperia u. Any problem to upgrade into .54 or .89
    2. if i upgrade this can i enable usb debugging in settings before flashing.

    • Viraj SK

      1) No problem at all.
      2) Sure (but there is no need to enable USB debugging because you’ll will be upgrading your phone using flashmode)..

  • ancel

my xperia u is new . i am not root the device.
so can i upgrade my phone(gingerbread) to ICS by this method..???

    • Shreyas

Yes you can go for this method even if you haven’t rooted your device. Only thing is that don’t forget to backup all your data.

      • Shashank

Hi Shreyas can u please tell me that if i upgrade from 6.0.B.3.188 to 6.1.1.B.1.89 will my warranty be void???

  • Sanjay

I just wanted to know how i can downgrade 6.1.1.b.1.54 to 6.1.1.b.1.10. Because i am not able to root 6.1.1.b.1.54.

    • ancel

downgrade is not possible in android.

      • Viraj SK

        It’s possible..

  • Mohsin Farooqui

    Hi,

    Thanks for the post.

I m from India and I have upgraded my Xperia U firmware from .10 to .54 as per your guide above. But as per PTCRB, latest firmware available is .89. Can I also upgrade my phone to this version?

    Kindly reply asap

    • Viraj SK

Yes, you can do it the same way you did for 6.1.1.B.1.54.
      Here a link for 6.1.1.B.1.89: http://d-h.st/qIy

      • Mohsin Farooqui

        Thanks for the reply bro..
Can you elaborate me the differences between ICS .54 and ICS .89?

Coz .89 is on TIM network..So whats that all about?

kINDLY HELP ME UNDERSTANDING THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE TWO?

        • Viraj SK

It can be applied to any Xperia U ST25i. So I think, network is not the issue.

For the difference between .54 & .89, you can refer this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2240342&page=3

        • Mohsin Farooqui

          Thanks bro..

So according to you.. Which one is more fastest and stable and in which version out of these two, battery performance is maximum?

        • Viraj SK

As per the users opinion (over at XDA forum), .89 has a maximum battery life but its camera is laggy whereas the same is working fine in .54. Both versions have their cons and pros.
Now you should decide which one you want to have…

  • Mohsin Farooqui

    Hi,
    Thanks for the post :)

I updated my Xperia U build number 6.1.1.B.1.10 to 6.1.1.B.1.54 and its working great. I need to ask the latest version as on PTCRB is 6.1.1.B.1.89. Can I upgrade to this version also in the same manner?

USB tethering only works with pdanet app and pdanet software installed on pc, but not the wifi hotspot. have tried lot of apps like foxfi.

I searched a lot everywhere, on sony forum. Havn’t found any solution. Could it be because this ftf is vodafone branded? I am using Idea sim.

    • Viraj SK

It isn’t Vodafone branded. It’s unbranded firmware..

      • Tejas

Ok, i just thought so cause in my phone the browser had set vodafone homepage by default. Thanks anyway. I hope sony finds solution over the tethering issue in next update. Is there any news about the update coming soon ?

~Does ICS has built-in Adobe Flash Player? or we have to install it manually?
~My second question is that Is it necessary to install Flash player? Does it play FLV videos as well?

    • Viraj SK

      1) Sony Xperia U has a build-in Flash Player.
      2) Already answered.

You can try watching Youtube videos from Android Browser. But I would suggest you to use Puffin / Skyfire / Opera Mobile browser for watching FLV videos..

I have Paired my phone with PC through Wi-Fi connection but still unable to load the file which are more than 63KB. why is it so?

    • Viraj SK

It may be stock ICS problem. You should try with 3rd party app..

      • Asif

same was the case with 2.3.7 GB version. That is why I wanted to know What is the problem? Why I am unable to send any file more than 63KB through wifi paired connection.

btw would you mind telling me the name of any third party app so that I can install.

      • Asif

same was the case with 2.3.7 GB version :-/

  • Muhammed Nabeel

hey friend I want to know something about the phone.

~Can we disable the LED light? Which is at the bottom of the cell.
~Can I charge my Xperia U all night long? (daily) or is it harmful for the battery to be charged all night long?
~My android ICS has become too slow after installing applications. what to do now? What is making my phone slow? I’ve Avast Mobile Security as well. I think Avast makes my phone slow. what do you think? any tips?

I shall be highly obliged of if you answer my queries. Thanks for your time.

    • Viraj SK

      1) Use LEDs U CTRL app (It may require root. I am not certain about it): https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.rckmn.leds.u.ctrl&hl=en.
      2) No, don’t do that, It will overcharge the battery & subsequently reduce the battery life.
      3) May be you’ve installed apps in internal storage. It is better to install / move them to external storage. And personally I haven’t installed any AV in my phone because I think Android doesn’t require any AV..

      • Muhammed Nabeel

Thanks my dear friend for such great help.

~There is Phone memory which is 1.7GB user available and “Internal Memory” 4GB User Available. No “External Memory” neither it supports any Memory Card. So Phone Memory Acts as a Internal Memory and Internal Memory Acts as a External Memory (according to me).

Apps goes in the Phone Memory after being installed by default and then I manually move them to Internal Memory.

So Should I leave them in Phone Memory? or moving to Internal Memory is good rather than leaving them into the Phone Memory?

        • Viraj SK

Oh sorry! I wasn’t aware of external storage.

By the way, you should move the apps to internal storage (as many as possible).

        • Muhammed Nabeel

ok Should I move built-in apps as well to the internal memory? if they’re able to move

        • Viraj SK

I think they won’t get move. It will require root access. You can try though..

  • Mohsen

  • Nabeel

Thanks buddy for this helpful tutorial. I’ve upgraded mine xperia U to 4.0.4 ICS and I jus wanted to know that doesn’t ICS support animated xperia background as GB did??

Your reply would be highly appreciated.

    • Viraj SK

      Do you mean Live Wallpapers?

      • nabeel

yes. Got it. It supports actually but have to set manually. Thanks btw. You’re awesome dude.

I would like to share my experience as well.

-ICS 4.0.4 is the best and better than 2.3.7 GB
Now it doesn’t consume battery much (The most beneficial thing)
        -improved contacts options
        -Fast OS
        -Fast processing speed
-didn’t experience anything wrong/bad in it

I would highly recommend Ice Cream Sandwich 4.0.4 :)

  • Attiq

Thankx buddy it works perfectly and having no issues. Keep it up

    • Viraj SK

      You’re welcome Attiq!

I have updated my U to from GB to 6.1.1.B.1.54 ics, but now I am unable to play the songs etc through speaker. Error message keeps flashing “The accessory’s microphone and buttons are not available”. Please help.
Also can u post the link for ICS 6.1.1.B.1.75, 6.1.1.B.1.89 ftf for U? Thanks

    • Viraj SK

ICS 6.1.1.B.1.75 / 6.1.1.B.1.89 firmwares aren’t available yet. Hence I would suggest you downgrade the firmware to ICS 6.1.1.B.1.10

      Link: http://d-h.st/Ckk

      • shubham arora

is the above problem can also happen with my xperia U or I first update to 6.1.1.B.1.10 and then to6.1.1.B.1.54 ICS

        • Viraj SK

No, it may be 6.1.1.B.1.54 firmware problem. You should downgrade to 6.1.1.B.1.10 & stick with it till the next update rolls out.

P.S: Sometimes it can be the compatibility issue of some phone with specific SI numbers..

        • shubham arora

can you try earphone on your friend xperia U plz its my request

        • Viraj SK

Yes, it’s working fine. I’ve tested it myself..

        • shubham arora

          thanx

      • Anurag

But 6.1.1.B.1.10 is known to be buggy. Also what is your take on 6.1.1.C.1.0_T-Mobile.ftf 334.1 MB build available at https://hotfile.com/dl/182433042/18edea9/Xperia_U_ST25i_6.1.1.C.1.0_T-Mobile.ftf.html ? It is suggested by user at http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35339192&postcount=173

        • Viraj SK

          Hi Anurag,
It’s meant for T-Mobile variant of Xperia U. You can’t upgrade your phone using that ftf file.
Always remember- Don’t flash any ftf if it contains .C in it..

        • Anurag

Hi, I did update my phone to 6.1.1.C.1.0_T-Mobile.ftf and it is working fine without any issues, but the same error message is coming. I’ll get the 3.5 mm jack checked.

  • Anurag

As a result I have tp use headphones to listen to songs etc. Prior to this on GingerBread, there was no such problem. Can you please help?

  • nabeel

Bro .100 is far better than .89 in any way and if you are experiencing any lag then follow these steps.

Uninstall Facebook, If it is installed or updated (use pre-installed Facebook, do not update)

Uninstall “Google Play Services” file (It is located in Settings>App>All>”Google Play Service”>Uninstall

Disable unnecessary buit-in apps (If needed)

Conclusion: Facebook makes you phone working slow. Uninstall Facebook and check your phone performance, you will fell the difference.
